| Abstract | The investigation was carried out in 2004 in the “Szare Lake” nature reserve and its buffer zone. The occurrence of 2582 individuals of water mites belonging to 62 species was recorded. Lake Szare is a lobelian dystrophic-oligohumous lake with a unique combination of water mite species with a large proportion of acidophilous and lacustrine elements. In Lake Szare species of small water bodies prevail with a large proportion of the acidophilous and lacustrine element. The highest numbers of water mite species and their greatest abundance were found at the depth of 0.2 m.
